A Little Crochet Pumpkin for a Cozy Autumn
There is something about this time of year that makes me want to slow down, bring out my yarn, and make a few little things to decorate my home. The days are getting shorter, the air feels different, and autumn colors are everywhere. It is the perfect season for a little crochet.
I recently made three crochet pumpkins, each one a little different from the others. I used three types of yarn: category 4 acrylic yarn (Caron Simply Soft) , category 2, cotton, bamboo viscose, and hemp blend (Twisp by HiKoo), and category 2 100% mercerized cotton (YarnArt Begonia).
I love how differently they turned out! Even though I used the same pattern, the yarn made each pumpkin its own size and gave it a slightly different look. It is always interesting to see how much a simple change in materials can affect a finished project.
What I especially like about these pumpkins is their shape. Instead of leaving the pumpkin smooth, I wanted to create distinct ridges that give it that familiar pumpkin look. The little stem, complete with curly tendrils, adds the finishing touch.
I also like that you don't need a lot of yarn to make one. This is a wonderful project for using up small amounts left over from other crochet projects. You can experiment with different yarn weights and fibers, too. A thicker yarn will make a larger pumpkin, while a finer yarn will give you a smaller one.
There is no need to make all your pumpkins exactly alike. Sometimes, the charm of handmade decorations is in those little differences.
I can imagine these pumpkins displayed on a shelf, arranged in a small basket, or placed on a table with a few autumn leaves. You could make several in different sizes and colors, choosing warm oranges, creamy neutrals, browns, or even muted greens.
I think handmade decorations have a special kind of charm. They don't need to be elaborate or perfect to make a space feel welcoming. Sometimes, a few small things made with your own hands are all it takes.
I have a written crochet pattern for the complete pumpkin, including the instructions for creating its shape and crocheting the stem with curly tendrils. You can find it in my Etsy and Ravelry shops if you would like to make one of your own.
I also made a video tutorial showing how I shape the pumpkin to create the ridges and how I crochet the decorative stem with tendrils. You can use these techniques with my pattern or with another crochet pumpkin pattern you already have.

I hope this little project inspires you to pick up your hook and enjoy some peaceful crochet time this autumn. Whether you make one pumpkin or a whole collection, I hope you have fun experimenting with yarn and making something that feels like your own.
Happy crocheting, and enjoy the beautiful autumn season!
